Non-state schools - directors of governing bodies and authorised persons

Who needs a blue card?

The Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Act 2001 requires directors and authorised persons of a non-state school governing body to hold a blue card or an exemption card before they can commence work as a director or authorised person.

Find out more information about the blue card requirements for directors of non-state school governing bodies (PDF, 422KB).

Police officers and registered teachers do not apply for a blue card and should instead apply for an exemption card under this category if they are providing child-related services which are outside of their professional duties. Read more about applying for an exemption card (PDF, 231KB).

Important things to remember

Certain people are prohibited from applying for or renewing a blue card. Find out more about people who are disqualified from applying for a blue card.

A person proposing to carry on a regulated business must not commence providing child-related activities until they hold a valid blue card.

Business blue cards are valid for three years and the prescribed application fee is $90.25.

If you don't require screening under this category, you might still need screening under another. Please check all categories.
