School council members
I am a school council member. Do I need a blue card?
Yes, you are required to hold a blue card under the ‘Schools – employees other than teachers and parents’ category of regulated employment, unless an exemption applies.
You will not need a blue card if you are a:
- volunteer child,
- volunteer parent of a child attending the school, or
- approved or registered teacher.
Police officers do not apply for a blue card and should instead apply for an exemption card if they are providing child-related services on the school council, which are outside of their professional duties.
I have applied for a blue card, can I start attending school council meetings?
No. Volunteers who require blue cards must hold a valid blue card before they can commence duties as a school council member.
Where can I find more information about blue card screening requirements in schools?
Visit the "Do I need a blue card?" page for volunteers and students in schools.
Where can I find out about my obligations as a blue card holder?
Visit the "Your obligations" page.
